My step daughter, Isabella recently celebrated her 10th birthday and blogger’s husband and I presented her with a few gift options for her special day. I was beyond delighted our little girl wanted to go shopping for new clothes! It was music to my accessorized ears!! I literally needed a moment to appreciate what I was hearing. As a bonus mom, I like to think Isabella benefits from having two female figures in her life and perhaps one day she will say, “I got it from my (step) mama!”
Springtime in California is not what you think it is. Quite frankly, some of the coldest days I’ve ever experienced have been in “sunny” San Diego. Southern California’s May Gray and June Gloom are the weather phenomenon usually responsible for two months of seasonal depression. Now this particular surf trip to San Diego was bone-chillingly cold and wet. La Jolla’s dark skies shielded the sun like the best pair of sunglasses ever made (Thank you Tom Ford). And to add insult to injury, it was crazy windy….you know….the sharp, biting type of wind that makes your eyes water? Therefore, our attentions turned to shooting photographs and making the most of our stay instead. Thankfully, versatile wardrobe pieces and creativity saved the day for piecing together a few different looks.
Many of you who read my blog know I have become increasingly busy in an attempt to juggle the daily demands of blogging with my work and personal life. Although blogger’s husband and I go away together, our vacations shouldn’t be the only time we reconnect and allow the outside world to fall away. I admit to losing myself in the minutiae of my blog work, thereby leaving little time for those in my inner orbit. Therefore, making time for a much needed date night is what a girl needs as a reminder of what’s important.
Swimsuit season is rapidly approaching and I can already hear the collective sobs of all the women who dread the thought of wearing a bikini or a bathing suit. For myself, I’m really not keen on wearing a bikini. It’s not because I think my physique is unsuitable for a bikini…not at all. It’s simply a matter of preference. I simply love the one-piece bathing suit. Whether poolside or on the beach, the one piece has re-emerged as the ultimate fashion statement. My love affair with the one piece bathing suit has been going strong for the last few years, and I find myself reaching for this singular piece over it’s two piece counterpart. Therefore, I’m temporarily saying bye-bye and sayonara to my little bikini friend for the following reasons…
In the past, I would’ve described myself as being a punctual person. However, in all honesty…I have never been on time. In Dayna’s world, this notion of promptness and being on schedule is a complete fallacy. Just ask blogger’s husband….he has probably logged at least 100 hours of waiting time. Habitual tardiness has turned into a perfunctory task and I find myself saying, “Sorry I’m late” on a consistent basis. I recently read an interesting article on individuals who are chronically tardy. This made me think about my own rational decision making process and time management skills; or lack thereof. With that being said, these are the real reasons why I am habitually late.
My husband pointed to a white Volkswagon Jetta and stated matter of factly it was our rental car. Gasp!! Parked in front of me was a hubcap-less jalopy, bucket of bolts. In addition to a hubcap-less car, the seats were stuck doing their best impersonation of the letter “L.” Upright driving and sitting is not something I will ever get used to! Can you imagine not being able to recline your seat??!! Neither had I until we drove off in our rented white Jetta.
